Because... They took Freudian theory and mechanics of the mind for uniting One's conscious mind with One's subconscious mind, then flipped it; and took out the subconscious mind from the equation, and filled in the blank with whatever product their trying to sell you.
Trick in case: Slight of hand, by default you win as long as you know to replace Product X with Subconscious Y.
Don't let them steal your mind.
Thus, technically, one finds a treasure trove of knowledge hidden within advertising, who by their own default is prying deeper and deeper into the mechanics of the mind in an effort to steer and heard the mass minds towards their selling product.
This is why you will never see me using traditional commercial techniques with any of my products.
It's just dirty and wrong.
